This past Saturday, July 25th, the Boise Combat Sports competition team traveled from Boise, Idaho to Portland, Oregon to compete at the IBJJF Portland Open.
The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation hosts some of the most competitive Jiu Jitsu tournaments in the world, drawing serious competitors from academies across the region and beyond. Stepping onto an IBJJF mat means putting your training to the test against athletes you’ve never seen before, in a new city, on one of the biggest stages available in the sport.
Our Boise Jiu Jitsu team showed up ready.
Four Podium Finishes for Boise Combat Sports
BCS brought home four medals from Portland:
- Tram Le – SILVER MEDAL – Adult / Female / Blue Belt
- Autumn Crist – SILVER MEDAL – Master 1 / Female / White Belt
- Malachi Dean – BRONZE MEDAL – Master 1 / Male / Purple Belt
- Eddie Hernandez – BRONZE MEDAL – Master 2 / Male / White Belt
We also want to give an honorable mention to Darwin Paulino, who stepped onto the mat and fought through a hard, competitive match in the Purple Belt Division.
All five athletes train at Boise Combat Sports in Boise, Idaho, and we’re incredibly proud of the work they put in preparing for this event.
More Than Medals
Of course, we’re proud of the podium finishes. But competition is about more than bringing home hardware.
It takes courage to leave the comfort of your home gym, travel to another city, step onto an unfamiliar mat and put your Jiu Jitsu on the line against high-level competitors.
That’s how you find out where you are. That’s how you get better.
Every member of our team represented Boise Combat Sports with toughness, composure and heart. Win or lose, they stepped up and tested themselves.
We couldn’t be more proud of the work they put in leading up to this tournament or the way they represented BCS in Portland.
